Chart 12
Ambulatory Care Sensitive Condition (ACSC) Discharges As a Percent of All Discharges

Adobe PDF iconclick icon to download PDF version (70K)

This chart in part is as expected. Those hospitals such as Maine Medical Center discharge many patients who had surgery or a complex medical problem. Ambulatory Care Sensitive Conditions are typically cared for in a community hospital. However, if we compare hospitals or actual medical communities of similar characteristics, there are differences of note. There is no statistical test performed on this information as medical authorities generally accept that fewer admissions are better. That would mean that each medical community would work on improving outpatient care to avoid hospitalization.
